CD Reviews

Mainstream Album

(2 out of 5 stars)

"In my opinion this album goes well with the mainstream crowd as it is expected by the general public to be a more than behind of new music these days. What I didn't like about the ablum is the message portayed in the title of the CD. NYC is known for it's Underground music when it comes to dance genre, not commercial or mainstream for that matter. The tracks on this cd are outdated by at least 12 months of their release date, by which most nyc and the tristate clubbers have already heard and are putting them aside. My problem is that when people from different locations other than the tristate area pick this cd up; they expect the real musical appearance when it comes to assosiating it with the title "1 Night in NYC" to be what is heard now and not 2 years ago. This might be one night in nyc for Vic Latino, but too bad none of NYC real DJ's would ever consider this playlist for airplay at some of the major clubs around NYC, because people would LITERALLY WALK OUT AND NEVER COME BACK. Just because you own a pair of headphones doesn'e mean your a good DJ.

NYC House style of music stands for Underground ,NOT

Comercializim."
WORTH IT JUST FOR "YOU SHINE ON ME"

"I don't see how other reviewers could be surprised that this disc is so commercial after looking at the track listing-these are mostly very well-known radio airplay tracks.

Loaded with filter disco, samples of old tunes, tons of vocal, and commercial dance radio hits, Disc 1 isn't exactly what you'll hear in the big clubs in the city, although, it has its moments of more progressive stuff in the middle. It is definitely some of the best popular dance music out there, and Vic Latino does the smart job of letting the records play out for longer than 5 minutes instead of giving us radio edits.

Disc 2 begins with the "club mix" of Deborah Cox's "house is not a home," but it is not a house mix, it's the original 2 step mix. This is followed by a row of Latin flavored raga hop tracks in the style of Sean Paul and all those types of artists. Personally, I can't really take too much of that stuff. Just not enough speed or energy for me. Track 7, although it starts with a slow hip hop rhythm, borrows the riff from "Follow Me" by Space Frog, and it eventually speeds up to a driving house number, and then the house party starts all over again, segueing into the dark and tough Armand Van Helden track "Into Your Eyes," which samples vocals by none other than Andy Taylor of Duran Duran! From there, it's a fairly driving, hands in the air set, including a funky house take on Murray Head's "One Night in Bangkok", and ending with a few big names in trance, including a hot remix of 4 Strings.
