A Pleasant Change of Pace!!

"Growing up 2 1/2 decades after the end of WWII I can hardly look back on this music the way people who lived through the war years. However my father, a WWII vet, played the music while I was growing up. I remember wishing I could listen to more 70's contemporary music like Peter Frampton or groups like Boston but all I got was the Big Band Era music.I now find I enjoy listening to the Big Band Era music. Given what passes for pop music today I find the WWII era music to be and excellent way to relax. I can actully understand the lyrics and they make sense. Some of my personal favorites are Begin the Beguine - Chick Henderson, J'attendrai - Jean Sablon, Always in My Heart - Kenny Baker, Long Ago & Far Away - Perry Como, I'll Be Seeing You - Bing Crosby, and In a Shady Nook, By a Babbling Brook - Donald Peers. As the years of the Big Bands grow further and further distant it will only become harder and harder to find radio stations that broadcast this type of music. I live in the Cleveland, Ohio area and to my knowledge there is only one station left, an a.m. station. So if you want to have access to the variety of Big Band music and crooners of the war years this is a good place to start. Lastly, as the title suggests these songs are slower soft songs. If you want a mix of upbeat and slower songs I might suggest the cd's "Songs That Got Us Through World War II" and it's sequel "Songs That Got Us Throught World War II, Vol. 2.""
