CD Reviews

"Greatest" Hits?
Stephen Morrison Lewis | New England, USA | 12/23/2007

"With fifteen years of Raw, a record-setting broadcast program, you might expect a decent amount of diversity. Not so in the case of WWE Raw's Greatest Hits, the newest WWE music CD.

In most cases, selection of a "Greatest Hits" package is fairly objective. What sold? What sold really well? Bands often compile their greatest commercial successes. With a compilation along these lines, it's not so cut and dry.

However, this CD's focus seems incredibly narrow, focusing on the "Attitude Era" and themes you could have all picked off one or two CDs, and current wrestlers. Often times, these groupings are one and the same. While several of the themes are appealing, they are not what I would call a spectacular compilation, or worth retail price.

It's unarguable that performers like The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin are the biggest commercial successes in the business, so it's easy to see why they're on here. Others were still quite popular, like Mick Foley (In all his multiple personality glory), Shawn Michaels, and Triple H. However, on a track list of this size, when we see redundancy, such as the themes for two members of Evolution plus the Evolution theme, it kind of limits the appeal of the overall track list. Further, included are themes which were almost never aired on Raw. with 15 years of broadcasting, there is no shortage of popular wrestling entrances available.

And as far as "Hits" go, the track listing is fairly questionable, opting for recent versions of themes instead of the ones that were actually the biggest. As with all wrestling theme CDs, 17 tracks looks a lot longer than it is. Don't expect a 60 minute disc off of these.

Several of these tracks are entertaining, and Ken Kennedy's theme is probably appealing to wrestling fans who want one of the better quality new themes on Raw, but this CD has poor value in terms of new content, and serves as a poor representation of "the hits." Add a star if you really want the Rock's theme or Steve Austin's, but the collection is average at best, and fairly mediocre to most."
A great selection of songs...all on one CD!

"I know some people think this CD is stupid because most of the songs have been released. True...but hey, its still a really good selection and it keeps me from having to switch CDs. The only thing that gets me is the fact that DX and Jericho`s themes aren`t the remix versions. And sure, there are still some themes missing[like Edge`s theme]...but I think some of that has to do with copyright issues and stuff. Still great though. I`m really happy to see Mr.Kennedy`s theme and Undertaker`s current theme on this album. Those two rock . One big reason why I wrote this review was to tell everyone...get this at walmart! It comes with two exclusive tracks...Randy Orton & Shane McMahon`s theme. Its funny, cause the first thing that came to my head was "where is Shane`s theme?". I found out right after I bought this CD that walmart had two exclusive tracks...so I had to go to walmart and buy it again. Hey,it was worth it lol. Overall I give this CD my highest rating[ten stars]. But like I said, get it at walmart for the two tracks...go home, pop it in the player, kick back and enjoy the greatest themes from Raw."
Okay...Room 4 Lots More

"What we have here is the latest musical release from WWE, Raw Greatest Hits, celebrating RAW's 15th Anniversary. Surprisingly, there're only 17 entrance themes considering the number of wrestlers that contributed to RAW's 15 years of fame (many of whom either quit, were fired during the steroid controversy, or jumped ship and moved to TNA...so there's no question why this wasn't a triple album box set like the WWE Anthology).

My favorites are: John Cena(The Time Is Now), Triple H(The Game), Undertaker (Rest In Peace), Batista (I Walk Alone), and Kane( Slow Chemical)

The remaining tracks are good but they've been done(with the exception of the Mr. Kennedy and Melina themes) a million times on a million other WWE album releases. Also, one may note that the sound quality on this release is lacking in comparison to that of the older releases, and some songs sounds slightly abridged. Long story short, the album is too short and too familiar. I strongly recommend the previous releases to this one.
