"Released during the "golden age" of hip hop, "YO MTV RAPS: THE ALBUM" was a collection of period songs from popular hip-hop artists. The album pulls from both the East Coast and the west coast acts who were just becoming mainstream: among the artists are Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince, Ice T, Too Short, Stetsasonic, Rob Base, Kid N Play, and more.
Of particular interest is that several songs here are the extended 12-inch versions-- Stetsasonic's "talkin all that jazz", Boogie Down Productions' "My philosophy", Kool Moe Dee's "Wild Wild West", Too Short's "Life is Too Short", Steady B's "I'm Serious" remix and more.."
