Amazon.comSubtitled "Chasing the Dream," Bull Riders focuses on the veterans and upstarts of the rodeo circuit; it's a documentary that takes a peek at the athletes' mindsets both out of the chute and back at home. The soundtrack for this mind-and-mammal spectacle is filled with great rodeo-themed country tracks from lesser-known country acts. Don Walser gives this disc a taste of classic narrative country on "Bull Rider's Last Ride," Paul Russell and the Derailers both give great alt-country tributes to rodeo riders, and Joannie Keller gives the collection a female perspective. Steer clear (yeah, pun intended) of Doug Supernaw's smooth-talking "Fadin' Renegade" (which unfortunately lacks the raw energy of the other tracks here), and you have a memorable soundtrack--filled with the best sounds Texas, Austin, Bakersfield, and every honky-tonk in between has created. It's a great collection reminiscent of the classic truck-driving-themed LPs Starday Records churned out--great musicians and great songs, once you get past the odd concept. --Jason Verlinde
