CD Reviews

A different VENOM, just as deadly...
Ken Kupstis | Las Vegas, NV USA | 12/11/2007
(4 out of 5 stars)

"These are some of the best tracks from Venom's "Demolition Man" Years, in which Tony Dolan of Atomkraft replaced Conrad "Cronos" Lant on bass and vocals. A lot of oldschool fans never accepted this version of the band, thinking Cronos WAS Venom. It's too damned bad, because THIS version of Venom practically eclipsed their previous work...STILL brutally heavy and fast, but with even better musicianship and lyrical skill ("Temples Of Ice" might in fact be their best song ever, after "At War With..."). Tony Dolan plays bass just as well if not better than Cronos, and sings (er, shouts) much more understandably. Their old satanic lyrics were shelved in favor of newer themes...horror and sci-fi movies ("Tribes" was based on NIGHTBREED and "Need To Kill" was based on the TERMINATOR), surgery, mythology, etc. There's a heavy punk influence in this Venom but it never strays far from their metal roots. These songs KILL!!! Highly recommended...K.K."
