If Nancy Sinatra were to smoke opium while cruisin down the highway in a cherry red 1968 Oldsmobile convertible, you'd have the Venom Lords. Rising up out of the murky waters of the Chicago music scene, the Venom Lords are perhaps the best band you've never heard of. The lead guitar and bass lines on songs like "Hart Island" are strong without being overpowering and seem to wrap around the sexy vocals like a dusty, old mink stole you find in your attic. With lyrics like, "...car broke down, no one else around..." "Texas Kills", the title track off their self-titled CD, is a song that clearly defines what this band is about. It's soulfull and meloncholy without trying to be gothic. Gina's sex kitten vocals bring you along on her road trip down dirty back roads, while Dan and Amy's guitars fill the night air accompanied by Jon on the drums that dance off the undercarriage like so much loose gravel. In a scene full of so much watered down and corporate punk/emo/surfpunk, The Venom Lords are laying rubber on hot asphalt as they take you on the roadtrip of your life.
