"Leave it to the versatile Ventures to try their hand at different musical genres. The "Flights Of Fantasy" album is the Ventures' version of psychedelic music. "The Ballad Of Bonnie And Clyde" doesn't really fit into that formula but "Summertime Blues" does, because it's modeled after Blue Cheer's version. The original Ventures' instrumentals, such as "Innermotion Faze," are appropriately psychedelic. The album "Underground Fire" ventures into hard rock territory, coming dangerously close to heavy metal. "Born To Be Wild" and "Light My Fire" fit well alongside the Ventures' instrumentals, such as "Embers In E Minor" and the title cut. All in all, these are two concept albums that work very well and have stood the test of time."
