Solti conducts a taut, dynamic reading which brings out all the glories of this magnificent score. Nucci never did anything better in his life. The voice is in golden shape here and he is quite moving in the role. Te Kanawa sounds more Straussian than Verdian perhaps, but the voice is in fine shape and she always sings most expressively. Aragall also rises to the occasion, supplying plenty of smooth Verdian line and a nice ring to the sound on high. A nice addition to the Simon Boccanegra discography."
