Synopsis

Product Description
The Very Ants are one of many bands performing the music of Kevin Nicht, a singer songwriter currently based in Cincinnati, Ohio. He has been writing music as part of singer/songwriter team called Above the Line since 1978. Mr Nicht completed his Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Maryland in 1983, with a major in percussion performance. Mr Nicht performed in numerous music ensembles, such as Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Conert Band, Percussion Ensemble, Marimba Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Marching Band, and pit orchestra for a stage production of "The Bacchae". He performed professionally with the Prince George's Philharmonic Orchestra and the Harlequinn Dinner Theater in Rockville, MD for productions of Showboat and Can-Can. He also performed in pit orchestra for campus productions Pippin and a campus dinner theater production of Grease, where he met the foundation of his next band, Redline. Redline performed 60's covers in and around campus, and continued after college, evolving into a top 40 band before dissolving. After parting company for marriage, child rearing, and falling miserably on his face in the corporate world and family life, Kevin returned to music in 1990 after doing some studio work for his former Above the Line partners, now called Hippocrates Rainbow. Through them, he hooked up with bass player Joe Gretz and guitarist Alan Black, forming the Very Ants. The Very Ants started as an alternative cover band, performing tunes from the Violent Femmes, the Ramones, the Police, Elvis Costello, Nick Lowe, and Dave Edmunds. After hearing some of Mr. Nicht's original work, the band began working up a set of originals and performed at the Dulaney Inn to a roaring crowd. Booked for an immediate weekend gig, the band got serious about recording some of their best stuff. The result is the CD "It's All Greek to Me", recorded at Such Sounds Productions in Towson, Maryland, with engineering by John Such, keyboardist/guitarist for Hectic Red. Since then, Mr Nicht had another round of flailing aimlessly in the corporate and family world, before finally settling in Cincinnati, Ohio. He returned to music once again to form a surf band, The Dentures, performing true-to-the-original covers of surf bands like the Ventures, the Lively Ones, the Nevegans, the Tornadoes, and Dick Dale. Distance and life forced the dissolution of the Dentures, but the love of surf music lives on! He will return to surf someday. Mr Nicht is currently performing in and around Cincinnati with the Crosspoint Band, a Christian music band headed up by Eric and Britt Hauck and holding services at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Finneytown, Ohio. The band completed a brief tour of surrounding states in August 2005, and recorded a live/demo CD available at Northminster (http://www.northminsterchurch.net) Mr. Nicht has returned to songwriting, and is currently working on new material for an upcoming CD to be released in late 2006. Until then, enjoy the pure 90's alternative sounds of the Very Ants. I'm sure you'll like it! And check out the Very Ants merchandise available online at http://www.cafepress.com/swordfishjerky.
