"I am so greatful to the people who run the Naxos label for introducing me to to such wonderful yet unknown violin artists like Marat Bisengaliev and Dong-Suk Kang, but I must also praise them for releasing historical performances of virtuosos from the past like Kreisler and Heifetz. However in this case, I must praise them for releasing repertoire that is rarely performed.I have been a huge fan of Viotti's music ever since I listened to Itzhak Perlman's incredible recording of Viotti's 22nd Concerto that appears on the CD "Concertos From My Childhood". The 23rd Concerto that appears here sounds in the Mozart vein, but what I enjoyed the most are the two double violin concertos. The two part harmonies are gorgeous and radiating with charm and full of melodic substance leaving each soloist pelnty of room to shape and express every note in ther own way. I always thought that Paganini must have hugely been infulence by Viotti, could one of these double concertos be the one Paganini once played with LaFont? All soloisits play very well and the recording quality is not quite up to quality of DG but I still find this recording hugely enjoyable. All of this for 6.98, how can you resist that?If you like this CD look for the series of Viotti recordings (many of them are world premeres) on the Dynamic label. We are lucky to hear these pieces performed and must thank Naxos for taking a chance by releasing these rare gems from the vaults.4 1/2 stars Bravo!"
Nice Rendition
