CD ReviewsStrong work from a very talented artist 03/08/2002 (5 out of 5 stars) "For those who appreciate the Hindustani genre, this recording is hard to beat. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt plays these ragas with great sensitivity and expression as well as remarkable technical skill on his unique instrument, a sort of sitar-bottleneck blues guitar.
I find that this recording is more accessible to many western listeners than much classical Indian music, possibly due to the familiar tone of an arch-topped guitar. It might be a good album for someone interested in the form but not yet familiar with non-Western, non-tonal music. Highly recommended." |
