"This is Volume 3 in a set of four excellent discs of Vivaldi's fine Cello Concerti. All four of these CDs are very good indeed, but arguably this one is the best of the bunch. The soloist is Raphael Wallfisch, who consistently plays very well. The City of London Sinfonia led by Nicholas Kraemer, is a wonderful partner to the soloist. The Concerto in D minor (RV 407) is one of Vivaldi's most inspired works, performed quite nicely on this recording. Also, the cello is joined by bassoon for good effect in the Concerto in E minor (RV 409). The sound quality is absolutely first rate. The Penguin Guide enthusiastically recommends all four of these Cello Concerti volumes, but reserves their highest praise to this Volume 3, awarding it their coveted "Rosette". Without a doubt, you will not be disappointed in the slightest if you purchase this disc. Any lover of Vivaldi is sure to be satisfied, and the price is easy on the budget. In case the reader is not aware by now, many a Naxos recording has been highly praised by an abundant number of respected critics. This reviewer is just one of many buyers of their CDs that can wholeheartedly agree with them."
