"This disc is one heck of a charmer, and Vivaldi a composer of consistent invention and delightful melody. I particularly enjoyed the playing of Drahos and the Esterhazy Sinfonia; his tonal palette is rich and warm, the flute never sharp, and the Sinfonia has a tremendously appealing chamber feel. It's a perfect match. As well, many of the concerti are scored with other instruments highlighted (e.g. oboe, violin, bassoon) along with the flute, which makes the orchestral "conversation," the sense of give and take, the parlay, fabulous to hear. There's not one concerto here that will fail to please; not one. If Naxos is honestly off to a comprehensive edition of Vivaldi's Flute Concerti, this initial outing bodes well.
