Vivaldi like you've never heard him

"Well, almost like you've never heard him -- Gatti's approach on this album reminds me of Wispelewy's Vivaldi cello sonatas on Channel Classics or Jaroussky's more recent Virtuoso Cantatas on Virgin. The playing is fluid and luminous, stressing the sensual and flowing vocal lines of the sonatas, rather than the brash and spikey approach favoured by many recent baroque violinists in playing Vivaldi. Gatti is playing a different violin than he usually does, an Amati, with a sweet and delicate (but nonetheless focused) sound that is perfect for this approach to the music.
On my audiophile system the Glossa recorded sound does have its limitations in terms of both separation and sound stage. On my slightly less than audiophile system the recorded sound is certainly acceptable, though hardly stellar.
5 stars for the interpretation and the playing, minus 1 for the sound quality.
If you're interested in baroque violin, this album will cause you to sit up and take notice, whatever its limitations in recorded sound. It may well cause you to rethink, and re-evaluate, these early Vivaldi sonatas."
