Synopsis
Amazon.com When Philly soul sister and onetime Jill Scott backing singer Vivian Green nails a jazzy supper club vibe--as she does on songs like "What Is Love?" and the impossibly sad "No Sittin' by the Phone" from her lovely Love Story debut--you feel more elegant just listening to her. Green has one up on her hero, Barbra Streisand--she writes her own songs, credibly draws on the rich tapestry of gospel and R&B, and she can play. "24 Hour Blue" is equal parts funk and soul; "Superwoman" is a fluid, string-boosted call-to-arms for unappreciated women everywhere; and "Music" is an impossibly hip midnight-hour declaration of love for her craft. Manicured but never bloodless, slick but not austere, A Love Story stands as one of the most confident, accomplished, and sexy urban debuts in memory. --Kim Hughes Similar CDs

CD Reviews3 1/2 stars. Very talented Mikeisha Best | Mitchellville, Maryland United States | 03/11/2008 (3 out of 5 stars) "When Vivian Green first came out in 2002, I didn't pay any attention to her. "Emotional Rollercoaster" didn't grasp my attention at the time. But, I purchased her second album, "Vivian" and was impressed by her vocal ability and lyrics, so I felt obligated to buy her debut as well. Both her debut and her sophomore LPs are solid albums with excellent moments on them. None of Vivian's songs suck; none of her songs are bad, but her strong material really jumps out at you and stays with you long after listening to it. Some beautiful sounds come out of this beautiful woman's mouth. That's right, she's gorgeous and a very gifted singer! Vivian's soprano shines on each of this album's fourteen tracks. "No Sittin' By the Phone" is where she really extends her vocals and gives a phenomenal performance. This mid-tempo song has a large tinge of infused jazz and it sounds good. "Affected" and "Superwoman" are nice songs with quite a few touches of creativity. The hook on melody is very different. Some people are going to like that song, but it's going to be too much for others. "Emotional Rollercoaster" is definitely a classic R&B song, especially because of its lyrics. "I'm on an emotional rollercoaster, loving you ain't nothing good for me." So many women find something within that song which relates to them directly or indirectly. "Keep on Going" really inspired me. It grabbed me from the second it came on with the infectious production. The chorus is a stroke of genius and so is the vocal arrangement. I highly recommend Vivian Green's debut! Music lovers are sure to find something that they enjoy. Most likely, they will enjoy each song. Vivian is one of the R&B's most underappreciated artists, but with this review, I shout her out! Mikeisha's Top 5 1. "Keep on Going" 2. "Emotional Rollercoaster" 3. "Ain't Nothing but Love" 4. "Complete" 5. "Be Good to You" " Great CD Luna | Florida | 03/26/2008 (5 out of 5 stars) "Anyone who doesn't love this CD and the story of the ups and downs of love has serious issues! This CD never, and i mean NEVER leaves my cd player. This is a neo jazz, mixed with R&B, mixd with a little pop, type of work from vivian green, and although some songs did take me time to get used to, I can now listen to this cd from the intro until the end. Listeners would enjoy Addicted, Fanatic, um.. I don't have it in front of me so... number 10, number 3, and... just the whole cd. When you're finally over or just getting over a breakup, this cd is te one you'll wanna listen to. Trust me! And her voice is amazing by the way. low, whimsical, and meloudious. Like listening to what chocolate syrup would sound like if it could sing."
