This is the beautifully remastered version of the award-winning studio recording by late Horowitz (1987 Grammy Award / 1990 Penguin Rosetta Award). It is interesting that while Richter's playing became more and more inward-looking and austere in his late years, Horowitz' pianism became more spontaneous and subtler. Some may find it superficial, but there is childlike ease and simplicity in his playing, pure joy to live in moment. Playing his favourite composers, Liszt, Schumann, Scarlatti afresh, his rich and subtle tone colours radiate delight and magical beauty. Even Scriabin's D sharp minor Etude is played, not in bombastic way, but with more affection and sensitive brilliance."
