Synopsis

Album Description
Irasema Terrazas is one of Mexico?s leading female vocalists, and here she presents a program of favorite songs and cycles by living Mexican composers. Terrazas graduated with highest honors from the National School of Music and did postgraduate studies at the famed Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland, with scholarships including one from Mexico?s Foreign Ministry. Her artistic merit has earned several awards, including the 1999 prize for Starring Role in Musical Theater by the Agrupación de Periodistas Teatrales; the Young Artist and Luis Girón awards at the Carlo Morelli National Singing Competition; and second place at the seventh Francisco Araiza Competition. Throughout her career, Irasema Terrazas has sung under distinguished orchestra conductors as a guest soloist in Mexico?s main orchestras. She has performed in concerts in Mexico and Switzerland. In the opera she has played the roles of Euridice, Micaela, Giulia, Madeline, Flor, Silvia, Pamina! , Amy, Leila, Freia, Helmwige, the Forest Bird, and Arianna, among others. Voces de tierra (Earth Voices) is a short cycle by Eduardo Gomboa set to poems of Alberto Ruy Sánchez and written expressly for Irasema Terrazas. Three poems by Jaime Sabines form the texts for Julio César Oliva?s cycle Por siempre Sabines, and film director Salvador Carrasco wrote the verse for Solamenta sola by Samuel Zyman. Four Buddhist songs by Kavindu round out this unique recital.
