"This is the Ring that Furtwaengler conducted at La Scala in the early 1950s. The house band is not quite up to the standards of Bayreuth or Berlin but adequate for the purposes at hand. The live mono sound naturally does not come up to current standard but it is not bad. The audiences in all four parts of the cycle are fairly well-behaved.The cast is adequate -- certainly superior to any cast likely to be assembled today -- but it was not the best that could have been assembled at the time. Furtwaengler and The Ring = five stars."

"Bought this to prepare for an audition. It's a live recording, and it's not the greatest fidelity. BUT, it's and excellent interpretation and it's definitely worth the buy. Great music, of course, as well."
