"I am really amazed about the good sound of these CD's recorded in the early fifties. I din not expect it. Ramon Vinay at his peak with his beautiful and manly baritonal voice makes a fantastic Tannhauser. The rest of the cast contributes to make this a great Tannhauser, except the Venus of Herta Wilfert(thanks is a small part), whose voice does not match the role and sometimes sounds off-key. The orchestra sounds perfect under Keilberth. This Tannhauser is an historic recording that worth every dollar spent on it, and in spite of the weak Venus, deserves the 5 stars
The only missing here is Birgit Nilsson singing both roles as she did in the Deutsche Grammophon recording."
