"As a collector of well over 2,500 recordings of both real and "pseudo" Hawaiian music, I rate The Waikikis among my personal favorites. Recording in the 1960s & 70s this steel guitar based instrumental group from Belgium wrote most of their own material and definately had a sense of humour about what they were doing. The music is lively, upbeat for the most part and surely very evocative of a modern-hip (ala 1960s) paradise. It's groovy in a Spongebob Squarepants kind of way..some tracks featuring a wordless "do-wah" chorus. One of the German titled tracks on this compilation CD is actually their "Hawaiian" version of "Happy Birthday To You", to give you an idea of their light-heartedness. Great fun luau music that will make you laugh as well."
