CASH AND PERKINS - THE ORIGINAL MOVIE SOUNDTRACK VERSION WIT
Lady Gal Music | Florida | 01/17/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"First, a bit of an update about movies and music of John and June Cash: The Golden Globes and Oscars to be handed out this year will surely be presented for the bio-pic of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash. Their voices would be missed except for their collections of music and recordings left to us. However, this CD with these particular tracks on it was very difficult to find. It seems that Johnny Cash entitled so many of his recordings "I Walk The Line" so finding the original soundtrack from the movie with Gregory Peck took a little extra time. But, here it is folks, all the wonderful vocals and instrumentals provided as background for the movie. The songs tell the story almost as well as the movie, of a sheriff (Peck) who gets mixed up romantically with a grizzled bootlegger's young daughter (Tuesday Weld) whom he should have left alone and how the sheriff's world is brought down by his actions. The songs are as passionate as the movie. In this CD the entire versions of "I Walk The Line" and "Flesh and Blood" are recorded plus Cash's recordings of "Hungry" and "Ring of Fire" plus all the background music from the film. For Johnny Cash fans and film buffs this CD is the best. I happen to own the original 33 1/3 rpm of this title and have been searching for the CD version for some while. If you enjoy Johnny Cash's movie music (as opposed to his live versions) this is a pristine CD, recorded during the height of his career. In this CD his voice had not yet cracked by age or deepened by time, but was full and rich. It was not yet plagued by sadness but rings with determination and power. Mark the many key changes he makes in "I Walk The Line" and "Ring of Fire". In addition this CD includes "Little Fauss and Big Halsey" soundtracks (with the great Carl Perkins). As time passes this CD will be among the best of the soundtracks from the movies, and this year, with the bio-pic movie out about Johnny and June, this original movie theme music is a must for any serious Johnny Cash fan. A bargain at any price!"
Nice Bear Family Records edition (like most of them)

"This BFR edition is just great. Very complete picture of Johnny Cash'swork on two movies in 1970. For the movie "I WALK THE LINE", featuring Gregory Pack, Cash recorded the new version of his famous song. Here are couple of very rare songs, that deserve the best of collection, like Flash and Blood, This Town. On the other movie "LITTLE FAUSS AND BIG HALSY", feat. Robert Redford, Johnny Cash and his old pal Carl Perkins are in the great shape with some exellent instrumental songs. My advice for are true JC funs: a must have. This album is historical document, not for a listen on the sunday afternoon."
Soundtrack heaven

"I Walk the Line was one the best sound track ever recorded in the last 40 years. Walk the Line itself is familiar to anyone who's only heard even a few songs by Johnny Cash but there are some others like the passionate Flesh & Blood, Hungry and This Town that are also incredible. They tell the story of a man, Sherrif Henry played by Gregory Peck who has fallen in love with the one woman he should've left alone and the terrible things that follow as a result of that love. The Little Fauss songs are great too."
