CD Reviews

Wally RULES !!!
Stephen McClaning | Pgh, PA United States | 06/07/2003

"Who the hell is Wallace Coleman you ask ? Once Junior Lockwood's
harp player, Wally has come out from behind the Godfather of the
blues with his SECOND effort STRETCH MY MONEY is the name, great
harp is the game. Nothing fancy here, Wally just blows that harp with
a Little Walter feel. MOJO HAND lets Wally blow that thing with a
feeling. SPARE WOMAN is down in the alley. Wally has himself a spare
baby. STRETCH MY MONEY is the usual broke but certainly not broken.
Bills have to wait, money only STRETCHHESS so far, money ain't long
enuff. SHAKE ME somebody, get me out of this trance, lady got me
NEEERRRVVVOUUUSSS. She's loving somebody but not ME. Wally
gets the STRONG LOVE laid on him by his lady. Quiver & shake
tune. Tasty B3, OFF THE HOOK is a jazzy little thing. DANGEROUS
MAN is no one to mess with, leave him ALONE. WHO'S BEEN
TALKING, DEAD PRESIDENTS, & BRING IT ON HOME are
done Wally style. Nice job WC. HOMELESS PEOPLE is a
look into a homeless person's eyes. They are there but
nobody sees them. Wally takes a long look & doesn't like
what he sees. Blues done simply, with style, grace,
and a certain dignity really. Looking for the old
time magic ? There ain't no good blues out
there ? NONSENSE, check Wally out NOW."
A Blues Collector's Must-Have

"How silly to talk about the packaging when reviewing an audio CD. But since you brought it up, I'll add that I think it's lovely. In particular, it's great to see Wallace Coleman's smiling face on the front and back covers! Now I know what he looks like. Great job! Now, to the music. This CD is a must-have for Blues lovers. Wallace Coleman has given us a glimpse into the versatility of his talent. The first CD was a great debut, but these selections show his growth as an artist, and how his traditional foundation is rooted in any style he chooses to record. The original compositions are fresh and offer a variety of styles as well. Throughout, the musicians on this CD prove that they clearly love this music. Mr. Coleman's style is tasteful and never overdone...that makes it a joy to listen to...and it stays in my rotation!"
