CD Reviews

Guitar on fire
09/02/1998
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Walter Trout is a "Jersey-boy gone good" playing a guitar-gone-bad. "Tellin Sories" opens with a fierce riff and never stops. During each song you wait for Walter to come up for air, but he doesn't. Every song is a wild ride of utter sponteneity--- the guitar is simply on fire. Every song offers different techniques usually done rapid-fire. Any person who has played a Fender Strat owes themselves a hearing of this CD. This man and his guitar belong at the head of the class. This is the Blues---and then some."
Good songs, TERRIBLE sound

"Please understand that the meagerly two stars does not reflect the quality of the music itself. The songs are good--the material on this album ranks among Trout's finest, I think--but the sound quality is TERRIBLE!!!I was in disbelief when I looked on the credits and saw that three or four people were actually involved in the production and engineering of this album. I literally thought at first that Trout and his band had recorded this themselves home-made. It makes my stereo sound like a transistor radio--some songs don't even sound like they were recorded in stereo! No bass--and too much blasted high end! (his guitar tone has too much of that tinny high end on some of his other albums, too.) Given that this album was recorded only about ten years ago, it's inexcusable to release a CD of this quality, sound-wise.I'm glad Walter came back with more releases later that apparently utilized technology invented in the last forty years!"
This one knocked me out too!

"After I bought the 1998 Walter Trout CD I went back and bought this 1993 CD and was really pleased - same great stuff on guitar, super lyrics - top to bottom a fine effort - I'm just going out now to buy his newest CD that was released June 8th called Livin' Every Day - if it is half as good as the first two it is worth the money"
