"When I first saw Wandering Lucy open up for Excuse 17 I was entranced by this lone woman on stage with her guitar. But unlike the spate of cookie-cutter girls with acoustic guitars trotted out in the late 1990s, here was a gal fully plugged in and accompanied by a drum machine. The sound was simple, allowing her brilliant melodies to grab the listener's full attention (even rapture). This album is less simple, using more studio effects and fuller arrangements (the effects work to her benefit on "Lady Genius" but at other times I could do without so much delay). Still the melodies are gorgeous and the poignant twang of her guitar packs plenty of emotional punch. This album elevates simple things in life--a cloudy day, longing, a single guitar--to things of beauty."
