CD ReviewsWARNING, this is a Compilation CD not a new CD featuring Jam PureRocker | USA | 04/05/2006 (4 out of 5 stars) "MOST WANTED is not a new studio Warrant CD. It contains the songs from 1999's Greatest & Latest CD (DeadLine Music) featuring a line-up of founding members: JANI LANE (vocals) ERIK TURNER (rhythm guitar) and JERRY DIXON (bass), with RIK STEIER (Kingdom Come fame)on lead guitar, and featuring MITCH DYNOMITE on drums and DANNY WAGANER on keyboards. The 4 bonus-track-dance-remixes of DOWN BOYS, THIRTY-TWO PENNIES and CHERRY PIE that were on Greatest & Latest were replaced with Jani Lane songs that were featured on tribute CD's (Cleopatra/ DeadLine Music): Lay Your Hands On Me [Bon Jovi Cover],Photograph [Def Leppard Cover], I Want You To Want Me [ Cheap Trick Cover],and Free For All [Ted Nugent Cover] List of the songs on this CD: 1. Cherry Pie 2. The Jones 3. Downboys 4. Southern Comfort 5. Hollywood (So Far, So Good) 6. Uncle Tom's Cabin 7. Sometimes She Cries 8. Thirty-Two Pennies 9. Heaven 10. Thin Disguise 11. I Saw Red 12. Bad Tattoo 13. Lay Your Hands On Me 14. Photograph 15. I Want You To Want Me 16. Free For All " Avoid this import at all costs! William Matson | Maine | 07/10/2005 (2 out of 5 stars) "Once again, music from the Deadline Records label has been rehashed. That is what happened here for this Warrant cd, 'Most Wanted.' In 1999, Warrant rerecorded a bunch of their hit songs (and a couple unreleased tunes) for a low-profile cd called 'Greatest and Latest', which was actually a highlight for their later day catalog. A few years later, Deadline took that cd out of print and rereleased it with a couple of bonus tracks (Jani Lane solo covers) under the title 'Cherry Pie: All the Hitz N' More.'
This import (either European or Japanese) is a rehash of that collection of tunes. Here is the track listing below, complete with inaccurate song titles that I did not bother correcting so you can see what kind of effort this label is putting in here. 1. Cherry Pie 2. The Jones 3. Downboys 4. Southern Comfort 5. Hollywood 6. Uncle Toms Cabin 7. Something She Cries 8. Thirty-Two Pennies 9. Heaven 10. Thin Disguise 11. I Saw Red 12. Bad Tattoo 13. Lay Your Hands On Me 14. Photograph 15. I want You To Want Me 16. Free For All Warrant tracks #1-12 can be found in the US on either 'Greatest and Latest' (1999) or 'Cherry Pie: All the Hitz N' More' (2004). #13 and 14 are Jani Lane solo tracks taken from a couple of tribute albums he participated in. "Lay your hands on me" is from a Bon Jovi tribute album and "Photograph" is from a Def Leppard tribute, both on Deadline Records. These same two covers are the bonus tracks that were included on 'Cherry Pie: All the Hitz N' More' when that was released to replace 'Greatest and Latest.' Tracks #15 and 16 are a couple more Jani Lane solo covers. "I want you to want me" is from a Cheap Trick tribute album and "Free for all" is from a Ted Nugent tribute. Neither of these have been used on a specific Warrant-only cd in the United States. These are padded on to this import cd, 'Most Wanted', as bonus tracks. The point is, there is nothing new here unless you are counting cover art. The import price is asinine considering you could just buy either of the US releases, preferably 'Cherry Pie: All the Hitz N' More,' for a much cheaper price and then track down the individual tribute albums which contain excellent covers from some other great artists. If you want a more specific review on the songs contained within, check out my individual reviews of the previously listed Warrant albums. In short, the Warrant/Jani Lane recordings here are strong and are worth a purchase of one of the original releases they are taken off of, particularly if you already like Warrant. This review is mainly to explain what this release contains and how it compares to the source albums. One star is knocked off for the price, a second star for the fact this is repackaged material and the third star is removed because this is being billed in the product description as "a comeback album featuring Jaime St. James, the new singer of Warrant." This is being passed off, and marketed, as a brand new studio album with the current/2004 lineup which is blatantly false. This is previously released music sung by the former singer, Jani Lane, and performed by the 1999 lineup of Warrant. " |
