Synopsis
Album Description "...The Grass Sun..." is Water's first studio effort. The album was recorded and mixed at Atomic Productions in Clinton, NJ and engineered by the studio's owner Matt Angus. As the 12 tracks play out Water manages to incorporate the many influences of rock, jazz, blues, funk, country and many others that have infiltrated the 5 band member?s heads. Because each member of the band comes from their own musically diverse background, the end result is definitely a mixed bag. "...The Grass Sun..." proves to be strong both lyrically and harmonically from track one's "From the Desk of Ely Chait" all the way to track twelve's "The Maple Seller" (which is an instrumental that features soaring harmonies from Jenny Duca). Although the strength of the band admittedly lies in their live performances, they manage to capture the lyrical and rhythmic power of the songs by utilizing the studio's tools. The power of the improvisational jams can still be found in such tracks as "Deep Hole" and "Dooh Daht Dah" which feature various delay loops from Mike Montrey, bulbous bass grooves from The Duke, warm Hammond Organ lines from Matt Tevald and tightly knit snare pops from Vance Vann. The other side of that spectrum displays the rustic blues of "Hoodwink Blues", the standard jazz feel of "Make us Happy" and the solemn hymn that is "My Faith will Lead me Home" All in all Water's first studio album "...The Grass Sun..." will prove to be a treat for fans of any genre and for those looking for something truly original. |
