Best Of, definitive...? Close enough.

"Whenever there's a "definitive" edition of someone's work, there's always room for fans to say "How could you leave out ____?" and I do have a few of those thoughts here. However, it's certainly a balanced collection, including all personnel past and present, plus a few like-minded friends on Track Two. And they do hit a few of what I'd consider must-hear pieces: "Bold Doherty", "The Forsaken Mermaid," and "The Devil and the Farmer" can tell any listener what Martin and Eliza Carthy and Norma Waterson are all about, and "Goodbye, Fare Ye Well" makes it clear what the ensemble can do. Plus, this is their only recording to include the preposterous, glorious "Jacob's Well"! I'd say yeah, even if you have their other cds, you need this one for "Jacob's Well" alone."
