My Armageddon, Pt. 2 - Wayne Kirkpatrick, Kennedy, Gordon
One of contemporary Christian music's finest songwriting talents has finally given us his own release. Thank goodness, because Wayne Kirkpatrick's The Maple Room is a piece of songwriting brilliance, clearly showing why... more » so many artists clamor for his songs. Like Matthew Sweet and Michael Penn, Kirkpatrick knows how to write a sweet, swift, intelligent, and complete pop song. Many of the tracks here have wonderful choruses and hooks that will stay with you for a long while. Whether it's the toe-tapping numbers such as "That's Not New Age" and "In Another Light" or the poignant and moving ballads "Hanging by a Thread" and "I Won't Forget You," Kirkpatrick covers the gamut of emotion, insight, and sentiment. His expressive songwriting style, not to mention his technical expertise as a guitarist, provides listeners with the total package. Any pop music fan can appreciate The Maple Room, and they owe it to themselves to grab a copy today. --Michael Lyttle« less

"Fans of Michael W. Smith's "i(2)eye" and Amy Grant's "Lead Me On" and "Behind the Eyes" will love this album. Wayne has written songs for both of these artists, as well as many others. The music is very similar in style to the Garth Brooks/Chris Gaines CD. There are only a handful of songwriters in ANY genre of music that match Wayne's depth, sensitivity and ability to craft a great song. It is a shame that this album is not being promoted as heavily as other new releases because it is so much deeper and more well-written than just about anything else you hear on the radio. We often hear that music by Christian artists does not have as high a quality as "secular" artists, but this CD surpasses most of what's on Christian or secular radio. If you like "thinking person's music" then you will LOVE this CD. Now, if we could just get a collaboration between the two greatest songwriters, Wayne K. and Steven Curtis Chapman..."

"I first heard Wayne Kirkpatrick several months ago on Christian Radio K-Love. They played "It's Me Again" from the Rocket Town Sampler (a great cd I might add) and I was captured. What a fresh breath of air that was.
What I heard was a mix of the Beatles, Graham Nash, America, as well as British Pop. Definetly a touch of British magic in his sound with such smooth and vibrant vocals.
I don't usually like to compare Christian music to secular music but I find it is sometimes nessasary to help make that comparison.
This recording is a must whether you are a Christian like myself, or a non-Christian. Hope this sells tons of copies.
I really have a lot of respect for the freedom that Don Donahue and Micheal W. Smith have given to thier musicians over at Rockettown Records. Finally, a label that is willing to "let the tape roll."
Wayne, thanks for the great songs.
God bless you and I await impatiently for your next release.....Bob Plourde, Arizona"

"Wayne is my favorite songwriter of all time and I am so thrilled to hear him singing his own material! The cd is just wonderful. The lyrics are insightful and really get to the heart of what is going on inside most of us - the doubts, the fears, the joys. A couple of songs are very reminiscent of Kenny Loggins while others are reminiscent of Garth Brooks' Chris Gaines (appropriate since Wayne wrote many tracks on that cd)! If you like really listening to and reading lyrics, this song is for you! No fluff, ingenious rhymes and unusual words not usually heard in music, but somehow he makes them work! He's a true songwriter's songwriter!"

"I own hundreds of CD's from all kinds of music and this is one of the best of all! Wayne not only can write for others, he can really sing. Good, clear, soft voice. He sounds like a mixture of Phil Keaggy and Wes King. Excellent! I really like song number four: Blame It On Your Mother. It seems to be a fad these days to blame all your problems on some childhood flaw, and this song addresses that issue. The other songs are just as important too with great messages. I noticed that Susan Ashton does some vocals on this CD too. Excellent choice of background vocals. Good job Wayne!"
It's about time...

"that Wayne Kirkpatrick put his own lyrics to music. The man who made Michael W. Smith and Amy Grant's music has amazed and impressed us with this CD. Wayne's insight makes this CD a easy listen."
