"In the Sixties this set of Overtures meant a true success. Weber 's Overtures still maintain a low profile among the great audiences. From time to time, you may listen Furtive hunter or Oberon, but hardly jezebel, Preciosa pr Abu Hassan , for instance.
The happy conjunction of Kubelik and this notable orchestra was extremely fruitful: I still hear this set on LP and I still enjoy them. Go for this rewarding album.

"Rafael Kubelik recorded with many orchestras. As a matter of fact, his set of Beethoven symphonies has 9 different orchestras. His longest tenure with any single orchestra was with the Bavarian Radio Symphony (Munich). He had a very special relationship with this orchestra. There is an enormous amount of warmth in the Weber overtures performed here but there is also plenty of brilliance, especially in Oberon. If you do not have a CD of Weber overtures, this is the set to buy, especially at the budget price."
