"It seems to me that Weezer has gone steadily downhill since their debut, and I am by no means alone in that opinion. That said, I did not delude myself into expecting a creative rebirth or return to Blue album form on this album, nor will I on their next. Instead, Make Believe is likely Weezer's weakest album to date, but it is not a complete waste of money, as some reviewers have suggested. The production was impressive, as in smooth, but not over-produced. The melodies and instrumentation are halfway decent, but nothing to write home about. The vocals are delivered in the same straight forward manner that Rivers is known for, and again that is nothing mind-blowing, but perfectly sufficent. The only major problem is the lack of interesting lyrics. As the title of this review suggests, the lyrics are simply simple and it seems like the whole album could have been written in the time it takes to listen to it.



Ultimately, there is nothing on this CD that can match any of the 10 from the Blue Album, but that is not saying much considering the Blue Album is, in my opinion, THE most consistent album of all time. The best songs here are "Hold Me", "Peace", "The Damage in Your Heart", "The Other Way", and "Freak Me Out"."
