"Most of the big band works are performed well for a college band, but most sound better played by the big bands that they written for. The small-group tunes were the most intresting part of this CD. The players who stand out are Xavier Davis and John Wojciecowski; they both sound unusually mature for being college students. The compositions stand out as much as the players. Wojciechowski's 'Jefferson Avenue', and trombonist Scott Gwinnell's 'Highland Park' are great, rememorable tunes that seperate this CD from most college bands that I've heard. Both tunes are great vehicles for the soloists. It would've been more intresting if the big-band played more original charts, but none-the-less, this CD is one of the better collegiate recordings that I've heard."
