Album DescriptionINCLUDES WORLD PREMIERE RECORDINGS! Wilhelm Kempff (1895-1991) was most famous during his lifetime as one of Germany?s finest classical pianists, heard on numerous recordings from the mid-twentieth century, but he was also a considerable composer, primarily of chamber music, and these works are being more closely investigated a few years after his death. The present recording was originally issued in 1995 in commemoration of Kempff?s one-hundredth birthday. The Trio in G minor, written when Kempff was only sixteen, exists only in manuscript, having never been published; yet it is a remarkably mature work, if obviously modeled on Brahms. The later Trio for Piano, Flute, Violin and Cello bears the opus number 15 as is dedicated to Her Majesty Queen Viktoria of Sweden, originally a Prussian princess, on Kempff?s tour of Scandinavia in 1919-20. The performers here are all seasoned chamber players from across Europe.
