"Probably best known for his exquisite duet with the sadly-missed Judy Clay (Private Number), William Bell is still belting out the tunes. This collection does a pretty fair job of showcasing his singing and songwriting talents. However, his 1967 album "The Soul of a Bell" is required listening too. I saw, and met, dear old William when he played the Jazz Cafe in London last year. He was on top form, and sang his heart out - even though there were only a hundred people or so in the audience. He introduced "Sharleen from Texas" to sing Private Number with him. She sang it beautifully - and it was only then that we realised she wasn't from Texas, but in it...."
