"Fabulous Korngold music, beautifully played, and exceptionally well recorded. BUT... Yes, if you look hard enough you will read on this page that this is a CDR, burned on demand. I buy many releases from ArkivMusic this way, and I have never been disapointed. What bothers me about this product is that we are not told that the original liner notes are not included, and that the packaging looks like it was done on someone's laptop. So, am I unhappy? Not really. It's a marvelous recording, the price is right, but I would have preferred buying the original Marco Polo used-- rather than this plain jane set. But it's the music that counts, thats why all five stars are lit.
Addendum: There is a tiny interruption of audio between track numbers--- There shouldn't be any. This is sloppy work on the part of whoever is burning these. It' still not enough to make me send this back, but I am disappointed."
A Historic Soundtrack Re-Recorded Brilliantly

"The Adventures of Robin Hood was among the earliest full blown action adventure films with a full symphonic soundtrack backing, and for this reason, it is well worth exploring this excellent CD. William T Stromberg has resurrected many classic soundtrack scores similar to this one, and re-recorded the complete scores with the outstanding Moscow Symphony Orchestra. Korngold was a serious classical composer, and did not really relish this undertaking, but he gave it his best, and the merger of formal classical styles with a fast -paced action score is a treat to listen to. The modern recording does wonders in transcending the obviously older style of this soundtrack, and welcomes the modern listener. Get this one while you can on a factory pressed CD-note that the default selection is for an on demand CDR, without accompanying full graphics packaging. Highly Recommended."

"Adventures of Robin Hood is the movie that made me want to be a filmmaker -- and more than anything, it was the music of this film that did it. From the time I was eleven, I have collected and searched for every bit of music I could find - be it radio recordings with Basil Rathbone narrating, or the ubiquitous Charles Gerhardt recordings. Here, finally is all the music from the movie - properly orchestrated, unedited - and beautifully recorded. It is obviously a work by people who loved this music as much or more than I. And I thank you for it."
Finally, a great new recording of Robin Hood!

"I grew up on films such as "The Adventures of Robin Hood", "The Sea Hawk", "The Adventures of Don Juan", etc.. but it wasn't until many years later I realized that a key part of what I loved about these movies were the film scores. The genius of Erich Wolfgang Korngold I think made these movies. They wouldn't have had the lasting impact without his music. He I think in many ways was the father of the modern film score. Modern film composers such as John Williams I think owe a lot to him and others such as Franz Waxman etc.. I have the Charles Gerhardt recordings(both), and they are wonderful to be sure. But, unfortunately they are samplers and not full scores. They always left me wanting more, especially from this film(Robin Hood). The original film score from my searching is not readily available in a restored version. This certainly helps fill the gap and is a wonderful recording. If you are longing for a great recording of this score, I'd certainly get it.I believe you will love it as I am currently."
