"Willy, you have many albums with cuban songs, and I enjoy
listening to them. Yet to my surprise you have not included
in any of them the song LAMENTO CUBANO, which is a perfect
song to describe the Cuba of today.
LAMENTO CUBANO (1932)
Music: Eliseo Grenet
Letra: Teofilo Radillo
Oh, Cuba hermosa,
primorosa,
¿por que sufres
tanto quebranto ?
Oh, patria mia,
quien diria,
que tu cielo azul,
nublara el llanto.
oh, beautiful and
dainty Cuba,
why are you suffering
so much today,
oh my beloved homeland
who would say it
that your blue sky,
the tears would mist.
To my present surprise this song was included in the film
DIRTY DANCING, HAVANA NIGHTS, sung by Donato and the Troubadors.
It was the song in the film that I liked best. This song was
written in 1932 in protest against the tyranny of Machado, but
in the film is used as an anti-batista song.
I would love to hear willy Chirino perform this song, either as a solo or as a duet. Keep putting out CDs of Cuban songs. By the way, Willy, great cover of you with the Cuban flag."
