CD Reviews

A compilation from the first 3 albums ...

"When I first heard Witchfynde I immediately associated them with Black Sabbath. Guitarist Montalo obviously listened a lot to what Mr Metal Riff had been doing since the early seventies ( just listen his guitar sound !). However, they're not just a copy. They 've always sounded a bit more 'commercial' than the Sabs. On this CD you find some songs from their first 3 albums (Give 'em hell - Stagefright - Cloak and dagger ) and in my opinion they could have done better than that. Songs like 'Am I doing the right thing', 'Big deal' and the beautiful slow 'Madeleine' are indispensable and do not feature on it. Then there's also the fourth album (Lords of sin), which I rate second best after 'Stagefright', and not a single track from it can be found on this CD. 'Lords of sin' also contained interesting live material from the first 3 albums, so ...?? Anyway, Witchfynde is a band for all Sabbath-sound lovers and if this were the only Witchfynde CD available, you still should buy it!"

"An affordable way for those who might be curious about this New Wave Of British Heavy Metal lesser-known band to listen to a good amount of their repertoire without having to purchase several discs. I (like you) realize imports are usually pricey. Total of sixteen tracks, lifted off their first three albums - 'Give 'Em Hell' ('80), the under-rated 'Stagefright' ('80) and 'Cloak And Dagger' ('83). In all honestly, Witchfynde is one of those metal bands that you might have to seriously give their music a chance to sink in. I mean, if you're a loyal fan of - say early Black Sabbath, Venom, Iron Maiden or maybe Budgie, I believe you should get as much out of this CD as I did."
