"This recording of Triebensee's harmoniemusik arrangement of Don Giovanni, Mozart's morality play, comes from Le Gran Partita, a Swiss group that specializes in harmoniemusik. They are likely better known as the world's best interpreters of Franz Krommer's partita-octets, having recorded at least nine of them on three separate recordings.



There's not a lot else to say here except that, if you like Mozart opera done by a harmonie (wind music) band, or if you think you may like it, you should try to CD, which sounds wonderful and contains Triebensee's complete rendering on 19 tracks. The extra Salieri track is a tiny bonus.



I like a newer recording of the Mozart better than this one -- the 2008

production from Opera Senza on MDG that comes in hybrid multichannel super audio sound Mozart: Don Giovanni (arr. Triebensee) [Hybrid SACD]. While it lacks the Salieri this one inlcudes on the twentieth track, the Opera Senza players are consistently brighter, chirpier, and quicker in the music.



The Swiss Tudor label has a star-crossed relationship with American vendors and its recordings often go out of print or become unavailable overnight. So, if you're interested, buy this today."
