CD Reviews

New sensation!!
Robert Badgley | London,Ontario,Canada | 08/04/2004
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This tight little group fronted by a talented little lass by the name of Susie Arioli is a welcome addition to the growing number of performers in the older style jazz idiom that have cropped up over recent years.Going back to the likes of The Cherry Poppin Daddies to Brian Setzer to Diana Krall to Holly Cole or just longer established stars trying their hand at the standards,Susie and company are a VERY welcome addition and breathe new life into old and new gems alike. They are equally at home in jazz, pop or blues. They put their indelible mark on everything they touch and most of it,much to this listeners' delight, comes up aces!
Having seen Susie perform one is struck by the lady herself. She stands front and centre and adeptly plays a snare drum with brushes while at the same time propelling not only herself but the rest of the group along with her wonderful and spirit filled vocals. Her voice is sweet but at the same time tinged with a sensualness that bring these songs alive.
The lead guitarist of this group is one Jordan Officer and is seemingly a wiz on his axe and his solos add just the right touch and flavour to each number. His sideman Michael Browne is an equally adept guitarist and backs and solos with ease.
Numbers such as "If Dreams Come True","Lover,Come back to Me","Reubens Blues" and a new twist on Woody Hermans' "Blue Prelude" are just a few of the stand outs on this CD.
Without doubt I recommend this CD and I have high hopes for BIGGER things for this VERY talented Canadian group. This, their first,is a GREAT start."

"Ms. Arioli has a delightful voice which she uses without overstepping any boundary. The band is excellent and so are the arrangements. If Dreams come true and The Big Hurt are equal to any brilliant classic, the latter should be used for impact in a romantic movie. With the proliferation of so many amateurs nowadays, this group will impress you as professional and inspired, thus you will like the CD more each time you hear it.

*****."
Don't be fooled by a drab CD cover.

"Susie's got a great backup band. Songs are well chosen and tastefully interpreted.
Only one suggestion for Susie- fire the guy(or gal) who designed the CD cover."
