Synopsis

Product Description
Woody Witt, tenor and soprano sax
Ed Soph, drums
Fred Hamilton, guitar, bass A collection of eight original compositions featuring a modern improvisational trio of master musicians. Impressive resumes all around. All three are professors and alumnus at North Texas State University. Individually, they've backed up Stan Kenton, Bill Watrous, Woody Herman, Clark Terry, Joe Henderson, Marvin Stamm, Dave Liebman, Randy Brecker, Tim Hagans, Kenny Wheeler, Bill Frizell, Joe Lovano, etc. Hamilton plays both guitar and bass, but he is presented here without overdubs. The resulting space creates a breathtaking focus. When he plays guitar, the absence of the bass creates a certain dynamic. Likewise, when he switches over to bass. As a group, the collective makes the most of this and nothing is lacking. Quite the contrary. The recording becomes more compelling as a result of that space, and how these master craftsmen use it. Witt's sound and compositions are lyrical, memorable, and ideal for this setting. Soph is masterful at the drums. All three of these men are at the top of their game. Their dedication is continuously on display and totally inspirational.
