Amazon.comThere's much more to Finnish music that just Sibelius. Klami was a contemporary and colleague of the great Finnish composer, and his talents where actually complementary. His basic aesthetic orientation was French, while Sibelius's was German. Klami's best work is all descriptive, and superbly orchestrated. It might interest you to compare Klami's tone poem about Lemminkainen's adventures on the island of Saari to Sibelius's on the same subject (one of his so- called Lemminkainen Legends). Sibelius sounds more primeval, giving more of a sense of mood and atmosphere, while Klami's colors are more vivid, his music more physically active and action driven. Both are wonderful, and aren't you glad that you can make the comparison? -- David Hurwitz
