Synopsis

Album Description
One of the seminal scores of the 1980s, "Stripes" was a huge hit and featured a score by one of film music's greatest legends, yet still there was no soundtrack release. Elmer Bernstein's score for "Stripes" is a classic. For it he composed a march that was every bit as memorable as the one he wrote for "The Great Escape." Once again, Bernstein played the comedy straight and what resulted is a tremendously exciting action score. It comes from a particularly exciting time in Bernstein's career. 1981 also included the composer's utterly magnificent score for "Heavy Metal."

CD Reviews

Stripes Movie Soundtrack
Joseph J. Giustino | Des Plaines, IL | 03/10/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Even If you have never seen the movie Stripes, you will reconize the music. Bernstein's score perfectly captures the flavor of the movie. It had been years since I had seen the movie. But with each track I found myself laughing as it brought back memories of some very funny moments from the movie."
Great Military Theme
Kenneth Morris | Topeka, KS USA | 01/12/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I have always been surprised that collections of military movie themes have not included "Stripes" especially ones which include "1941". Just like John Williams did for "1941", Elmer Bernstein wrote a traditional march for a commedy movie. The main theme is stirring with just a hint of a lighter tone and it contrasts nicely with the lighter pieces he wrote for the comedy scenes. This album makes an excellent addition to any collection of military theme music or a collection of Elmer Bernstein's music."
