Possibly the Best Music Ever Composed by an American
Nicholas A. Trandem | Pittsburgh, PA USA | 09/21/2005

"I'm not very fond of American composers. Or modern composers of any country, for that matter. Works based on folk melodies are fine, as far as they go, but most American concert and chamber pieces don't tickle my ear. That's why this work astonishes and impresses me so much.
I walked into the Mammoth Hot Springs gift shop two years ago (yeah, I should have written this review earlier, but hey, I'm lazy) and immediately noticed the music they were playing. It was outstanding. I was about to ask one of the clerks what was playing when I noticed a cowboy sitting at a small table in the corner of the store. He had a pile of CDs next to him and a sign identifying him as the composer of the music that was playing, Mr. Jett Hitt. He was very friendly, and after chatting a bit, he graciously inscribed our copy to our then-one-year-old son. We listened to the disk exclusively for the rest of our trip, and it has remained a favorite ever since.
I would contend that the music will satisfy the listener even if he has never seen the wondrous National Park that inspired it. I have found, however, that the music is incredibly adept at summoning up images and remembrances of the Park, especially those places that inspired the movements. It is my hope that this music, and its composer, will rise to the greater prominence that they deserve."
Delightfully melodic and expressive

"How can a piece of music be so evocative of a place so diverse and amazing? This piece is extremely expressive not only of the beauties of the park but of the west in general. Where did melody go in modern classical music? It's right here."
One of the Most Stirring Pieces I've ever Heard

"Heard the finale on the radio and decided immediately I had to own this. Part western, part eastern, part modern, but mostly classical--it stirs up images and feelings that are beyond words. From expansive plains to the grand mountains, soft fields and calm waters...ahhh! Close your eyes and let the music take you to your inner realms. The music touches the soul."
The beauty of Yellowstone all day....... every day.

"Jett Hitt in his neo-romantic style has brilliantly captured the essence, and beauty, of the
wonders of Yellowstone National Park.. With a delicate interplay between full orchestra
and violinist Frantisek Novotny, this tonal music is both sentimental and thoughtful as it
transports the listener to a place of serenity. Hitt creatively depicts the majestic, the
perilous, and the romantic natural characteristics of Yellowstone."
Captures Yellowstone's beauty and grandeur

"I purchased this CD at a bookstore at the Norris geyser basin in the park. I popped it in the player on the ride to our room at Grant Village and was swept away by its majesty and grandeur.
Over the next several days, Jett Hitt's ''Yellowstone for Violin and Orchestra'' served as my family's soundtrack while touring Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks. In fact, it was playing as we left for home and I dare say it made me feel a little sad as the Tetons faded in my rearview mirror.
It's easy to see how this scenery inspired Hitt's anthem to one of the world's great ecosystems. I don't know much about him, but he nailed the region's spirit on this CD. When we got home, I used the CD as the soundtrack for my home videos. The music matched the video perfectly, capturing the power of my montage of Yellowstone Falls, the tranquility of a mountain lake, the surreal passing of a summer storm over a geyser basin spewing steam and bubbling mud pots.
This is a must for anyone who has been to Yellowstone -- or anyone who longs to go there."
