CD Reviews

Girl gangstas rule
Corey Pride | Richmond, California United States | 07/05/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Back in the day when girl rappers were inevitably pop, YoYo flipped the script and became the first real female gangsta rapper. Her beats were funky and lyrics hardcore. You better Ask Somebody is the perfect blend of funk and aggression. "IBWin' Wit my Crewin' " is an unapolegetic warning that female gangs can be just as dangerous as guys. "Letter to the pen" speaks to the world of the girlfriend of the inmate. And then there's "the girl got a gun. " I think that's self explanitory. But aside from the honesty of thuglife for girls on the album, what makes it good is the beats. Not one song fails to make you bob your head. And a few contain samples from such legendary artists as Bootsy Collins, George Clinton, and Public Enemy. Then there is Ice Cube. His influence and vocals are all over this album. This type of record has not been replicated by any other female rapper, including Yo Yo herself, ever. It's truly an original,.You Better Ask Somebody"
Yo-Yo Is One Of The Best!

"I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE THIS ALBUM, BUT IT IS TIGHT. MY FAVORITE SONGS ARE MACKSTRESS, 20 SACK, AND PASS IT ON. THE SONG WITH ICE CUBE IS TIGHT, TOO. YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO THE LYRICS. I'VE BEEN A FAN OF YO-YO FROM THE FISRT SONG "YOU CAN'T PLAY WITH MY YO-YO"! IT'S GOOD. GO COP IT!"
YES, THIS ONE WAS A GOOD ONE

"man, as i sit here and surf this website, i am seeing albums that i forgot about. i remember listening to this one back when it first came out. i had the tape. i hate that i had to hock it because this was one of her best ones. i love IBWIN' WITH MY CREWIN, PASS IT ON, and WESTSIDE STORY. i believe yo yo is doing radio now, but i would like to see a new album from her as well as bahamadia for that matter."
