Synopsis
Product Description On You Am I's eighth studio album - the follow-up to their 2006 album 'Convicts' - one of Australia's most revered bands holed themselves up in warehouses and studios between Sydney and Melbourne during June and July again working with their long-time producer Greg Wales. During this period the band attempted to second guess and explore the process they would normally rely on to make a record. The album opens with the title track featuring acoustic guitar and Tim Rogers' vocal. Tim said of the cinematic sounding Dilettantes, 'I first loved the word after hearing Duke Ellington use it to describe the members of his consistently brilliant bands. More often than not the people who have left the deepest impressions on me have been those who have delicately bashed my ears with their love of music, art, literature, and with no airs and graces, more peanuts and beer...'. EMI. 2008. |
CD ReviewsJust purchase the damned thing! Brent M. Keneagy | Columbus, OH | 09/23/2008 (5 out of 5 stars) "Why You Am I aren't hugely successful in the States or anywhere else outside of Australia is a real head scratcher. Dilettantes is their best album to date... hands down! I thought it would be impossible to top Convicts, but somehow You Am I managed to do so. And yes, it's miles ahead of Hourly Daily ( I can hear hear all of you longtime fans gasping in horror). Everything about Dilettantes is top class. The songs, the sound, the musicianship, the Beardsley inspired artwork. Everyone involved with this album... a big round of applause is in order. Dilettantes just begs for a vinyl release. Perhaps two LPs on audiophile vinyl, a nice gatefold or foldout cover (maybe something along the lines of Led Zeppelin's Mothersip vinyl version... hint, hint). Dilettantes should receive the royal treatment, that's all I know. Dilettantes should be released worldwide. Dilettantes should see You Am I filling arenas all around the globe." You Am I Dilettantes M. Formanek | 01/30/2009 (4 out of 5 stars) "It is a shame that this album isn't released here in the United State. It is too good."
