"I used to think that this was a great record. After a few years of listening to it, I'm now convinced that, in an all-around way, it's one of the best records ever recorded by anybody. 100% coherent, the lyrics, playing, singing, producing, sequencing - everything - is impeccable. The messages are inspired, uplifting, unpretentious, and fun, yet the meanings run as deep as the soul. The playing is precise yet relaxed, and absolutely phenomenal. This is a perfect record. I'm writing this review right after buying and listening to 'Dragonfly', which is a good record, but 'Spirit' hits peaks that few artists ever achieve in their lifetimes. I sometimes wonder why this record never completely blew up...maybe someday it still will."
One Good CD

"I almost passed it up on the listening center, for fear of the crazy dance beats we have all become accustomed to in the Melody Maker music. Yes, their past albums have had some great songs on them, but those few rarities are easy to lose in the whole mix. I placed the earphones on without hope that this album would be any different. I sat their holding my breath through every song hoping that the next song wouldn't let me down...and it didn't. I was smiling the whole time. This album is amazing. It has ignited my true love for reggae again. Ziggy has found a nitch that suits him so well. Stephen sounds so much like his father it is exhilerating, and gives me chills each time I listen. The backup vocals are perfect. This album is a must, and I can't wait to see them in concert."
My ABSOLUTE favorite ZM&MM's

"I have been an avid fan of Ziggy's since I first heard him on a"Reggae Sunsplash-1982", singing "Sugar Pie" when he was about 13 years old. "Spirit of Music"is all about the MelodyMakers. They write, sing and do so much on this album. Stephen's song, "One Good Spliff" is awesome. Stephen's voice on his Dad's song, "High Tide or Low Tide" is hard to distinguish from his Dad's. Not to take anything from Ziggy, "Many Waters" is one of the most sultry, sexual songs I've ever heard. "All Day, All Night" has been my six year old's favorite lullaby all his life. Of the faster songs, "Beautiful Day", "Higher Vibration", et al are fantastic. Whether you have been a reggae fan before or not, this album is outstanding. Some songs are not very reggae oriented, yet their lyrics are so profound, philosophical and beautiful. This, of all the reggae cd's I own (with the exception of a couple of Bob's) is my all time favorite. My children (12 and 6) are converting all their little friends into reggae rugrats. We own over 150 reggae cd's, so I do believe I'm fairly informed. Have an IRIE time listening to this fantastic album!"
Coming Of Age

"After years of growth in the music world, Ziggy Marley has finally come of age. Every song on this album is beautiful, with an innovative original sound that is as heartfelt as it is lyrically deep. With a passionate voice and a fine tuned harmonic band, this album is the masterpiece I have been waiting for. I know Bob is looking down smiling, with a tear of pride dripping from his eye."
Mellow, uplifting, and just great

"if you have followed the melody makers through the years, you can see that the music keeps getting better. these tracks are almost all acoustic which is very mellow, but a beautiful sound, and a different one if you are used to listening to the other cd's. steve marley steps up once again providing you with a very familiar voice as he sounds more and more like his father. speaking of, there are a couple covers from old bob marley songs, both of which are not heard much. The Melody Makers will make an impact with this one with some great songs like beautiful day, one good spliff, and high tide or low tide, which was a cover of their father. if you like reggae, or if you are just a music listener, this is for all, because it has a hint of country in it, a little hip hop from steven himself, and is just a diverse cd that needs to be heard....keep the higher vibration goin. one love"
