This is a Japanese band named Air, not the French duo or the amazing free jazz outfit from the 70s. Just a clarification!

Utterly perfect intro to Tropicalia, Brazilian psych-pop scene from the late 60s/early 70s. Many classics here by Veloso, Gil, Nascimento and their peers. There is also a Tropicalia comp on Soul Jazz, which is a more varied affair, but this disc is a more gentle and intoxicating introduction to this amazing movement which tore Brazilian music from it's carnival/bossa nova-foundation.

If you are into skronk (Godflesh, Scorn, God, Ice, etc.), give this a shot. Great, unheard LP from the late 80s.

Wonderful UK postmodern psych, somewhat akin to Bongwater. On the Freek label, mid 90s home of Skullflower, Richard Youngs, etc. If you are into off-the-wall rock weirdness give this a listen, you won't be dissapointed.

Not a mix CD, these are 12" versions of the tracks listed. Does a decent job showcasing key tracks from early disco, philly sound, synth-pop, finishing off with early Chicago house tracks and a sprinkling of Detroit Techno (with Kevin Saunderson's Inner City project).

just a warning to others here, if you are expecting the Ryko issue you may not get it because the upc attached to this record is the old SST issue, good mid-period Meat Puppets though, charming mix of their psych and country roots

US Version has six tracks including the 11 minute "A Tribute To Monk & Cantella" and the pseudo-soundtrack "Theme From To Kill A Dead Man." Good non-LP stuff here.

The attached review is way off, no "chants" here or a Joe Taylor!? This is a side project of Wire's Colin Newman form the early 90's. Newman and his spouse (Minimal Compact's Malka Spigel) put together their own unique spin on the electronic sounds of the time. Because of both of their songwriting capabilities, the resulting disc sounds remarkably undated. Recommended, especially for fans of Minimal Compact or Colin Newman's solo work.

This is NOT Richard H Kirk's from Cabaret Voltaire ambient dub project, rather it is a blues CD. So the genres listed here are way off, just a warning.

Great record that confidently straddles the experimental wing of post-rock. Jim O'Rourke and guests disassemble rock songs into movements based on physicality and color, rather than groove. Should also appeal to fans of free improv and avant electronics.
