Putumayo always has great collections of music in many genres. This is blues. Real blues draws you in till you can feel it. We've all been there, some more than others. These songs are all accompanied by great playing to "feed your soul". "It's a real good day for the blues."

Quite a mix of blues on here. There's rockin' amplified blues by Little Walter and Robert Nighthawk. You can tell just where Rock 'n' Roll came from when you listen to these musicians. It may be blues, it's foot-stomping, swing-your-partner, boogie-woogie blues. On the other hand, there's some soulful crooning too, offered up by the rest of the musicians on this compiliation, with some really fine guitar work and piano tickling.

Loved the cadenza in the 1st movement, despite what some critics have to say.

Wonderful music! I enjoy every track. This CD remains near my six-CD player so I can throw it in there with some other favorites. I also put it on a thumb drive full of jazz and blues so I can listen in my car. CD players in cars have disappeared, and I'm not going to drain my phone data again with a Blu-ray connection. I used to have a used Toyota Prius with a six-CD player, but those are long gone now. The music is selected randomly, so this one stands out when it comes on.

There are a few songs worth listening to on these three disks, but I had to skip over many others that were pure saccharine orchestrated pop, not the lively rock and roll, soulful rhythm and blues, and rocking rockabilly that gave the decade new music. Much of this is just 1930s and 1940s-style music that was still on the radio in the 1950s, already just for the elderly, and as such is worthwhile purely as nostalgia for them. I listened because I wasn't familiar with all the artists, but, even for those crooners I knew, these weren't their best. Yeah, if you're in your late 80s and 90s, you might use most of these to fall asleep to, but one listen was all I could take for most of it.

Pleasant, and interesting, but nothing exceptional.

Highly enjoyable CD. Schuur has a lovely voice with a wide range, and the pairing with B.B. King is a great match. Great musicians seperately, great together.

Pretty nice collection of songs. I was especially happy to listen to Billie Holiday sing Sam Cooke's "Comes Love". Great song by her and by him. I hadn't run across it before.

Great stuff. Well worth listening to. Really, this is a roster of some the greatest jazz musicians ever.

I really enjoyed this album. It was a perfect accompaniment to a good book. I do like to listen to jazz and jams while reading. Thelonious Monk, Sonny Rollins, Duke Ellington - what's not to like? Popular music songs can be distracting. When I'm not reading, then I want something that makes me want to dance. Even this could have been a bit more uptempo, but it is so cool.

I really enjoyed this music, all the way through, every bit of it. I was able to compare it to the Royal Philharmonic version. I thought the comparison would yield a clear choice of the better performance, but I am unable to say one is better than the other. I enjoyed both. They were certainly not identical, but that doesn't matter when they are both so good. I think my appreciation of symphonic music has matured, based on this experiment.

Enjoyed this right off the bat. This recording has a wonderful full sound for this stirring piece. It is something I like hearing over and over.
