I am looking for recomendations for "shred" albums to collect. (If you are not familar with shred, there's a good chance our dialogue will end here. Alas.) I am posting this query here and on the Metal board on the off-chance this request will resonate (sorry, no pun intended) with someone scanning either list. I am not interested in cacophonic, speed metal. Rather, something with finesse, artistic composition, and exploration beyond four or five chords ala...say, Greg Howe, Gamalon, Joe Satriani, Steve Morse, Frank Gambale, Allan Holdsworth (not shred per se, but what's not to love?), etc. If you have some suggestions, I would be grateful to hear about them. Thanks! nessus19 |

If you can find it, Andrew Bordoni does some great work with his Earth-3 or Earthcubed project. The one I've heard is King Arthur-themed and there is a violin among all the shredding. If you change your mind about cacophonous, Bal-Sagoth is awesome! |

You desperately need to track down the first two or three albums by Jeff Scheetz. I think you'd love his brand of instru-metal. |
